Chris and Caitlin waiting to see Santa! (November 17, 2012)

I truly hope you were able to catch "Susan's Story," either last night at 6 or today on WDBJ 7 Mornin'. Susan Bahorich bravely shared her personal struggle with ovarian cancer. I am so proud of her for being open and honest with what she is going through. She is a wonderful inspiration to us all, and I look forward to seeing her continue her journey to good health!
It's been a busy week in the newsroom, with weather coverage as well.  Our area is under a flood watch, so please be careful out on the roads today.  If you see any high water, please let us know where it is. Drop us an email at news@wdbj7.com.
Also, I am doing a special report airing Thursday at 6 called "Bully Boot Camp." It's in Salem, and it's run by a self defense instructor.  Tom Ramsey teaches kids non-violent conflict resolution skills, as they learn to stand up to bullies. Hope you will watch!
Enjoy your Tuesday, and stay safe in this rainy weather!

Just like me, I'm sure you've been monitoring this week's events in Boston. It's just always amazing to me that with all of the surveillance and smart phone technology, that anyone would dare to commit such brazen, violent crimes.  I suppose some people don't care if they get caught.
As you know, one of the Boston marathon suspects is dead, the other is still at large. The city is on lockdown and people there are on edge. My thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one one of them. I hope that once the authorities do capture the individual responsible, that we can get some answers as to why he took part in all of this.  We probably still won't be able to come anywhere close to understanding. Along with the dozens and dozens of victims, I keep thinking of that little eight year old boy who died. He had such a promising life ahead of him...such a tragedy.
As you've heard, WDBJ 7 is doing extensive, live coverage of tomorrow's Blue Ridge Marathon here in Roanoke. I'm sure those runners will be thinking of the victims in Boston, and will run in their honor.  Hope you will come out and support these athletes and cheer them on.  We can't let fear stop us from celebrating the spirit of competition and the American spirit.

Hello! Spring break is next week for my son, Chris, along with all of the other students in Roanoke County.  I am also taking next week off, and looking forward to doing some fun things with the kids!  We're kicking it off this afternoon with an Easter egg hunt at my daugher's pre-school and another one here at the station for employees' children.  I gave up desserts for Lent, and am craving peanut butter eggs big time!
Hope you have a wonderful Easter!

Boy, it sure is feeling like winter, isn't it?  Once the winter weather machine got cranked up, there seems to be no stopping it. Again, we had lots of school delays and closings on WDBJ7 Mornin' today. Sounds like it might be possible for Friday, too. Leo says we could see some snow showers then.
Hope you will tune in tonight at 6 for my special report, "Kids and Cell Phones." I am looking into the issue of when is the right time for parents to buy your child his or her own phone, as well as how much parents should monitor their child's usage.  Let me know what you think! Email me at kmcbroom@wdbj7.com or send me a message on Facebook.  I love hearing from you!

Hello!  Hope your 2013 is off to a good start! If you have managed to avoid the flu, that is a big accomplishment already. Local doctors say they are starting to see fewer flu patients, but they still suggest everyone gets a flu shot, just in case.
Now that everyone is starting to settle back into the normal work and school mode, hope you are joining us every weekday for WDBJ 7 Mornin'!  In Thursday's Early Years segment, I will have a live interview with an adoption counselor on how new laws are affecting foreign adoption.
