David Wilson has announced that he is leaving Virginia Tech a year early for the NFL.
"I played many Fridays. I played many Saturdays. I'm forgoing my final year of eligibility to play many Sundays," Wilson said at a press conference Friday morning on the campus of Virginia Tech.
Wilson is a graduate of GW Danville High School.
This season he set the Hokies' single-season rushing mark with 1,709 yards.
He was also named the ACC's Offensive Player of the Year, and was selected as a second-team All-American.
Wilson, a junior, said he came to the decision about two days after Tuesday's Sugar Bowl game against Michigan.
He says he's been told by the NFL's draft advisory board that he projects as a second-round pick in this year's draft.
