After years in the making, “Act of Valor,” a movie partially lensed in the Imperial Valley, is having its world premiere Thursday and the Imperial County Film Commission is celebrating the occasion with a party.
The party begins at 5:30 p.m. in Cinemark at the Imperial Valley Mall prior to the 7 p.m. showing, said Charla Teeters, Imperial County Film Commission executive director.
“We’ll be having drinks and appetizers” in a mixer-type environment, she said.
In addition to this, there is a table set up near the box office where residents can write thank you notes to military personnel and nominate a local hero.
The action movie, which stars Roselyn Sanchez and Alex Veadov, was shot in the Imperial Valley in September 2009. It was filmed at the old milk distribution center and near the railroad tracks on Broadway Avenue in El Centro.
Shooting in the county took two and a half weeks and “it was pretty heavy” as it involved lots of explosions, said Teeters.
Tickets for the party and the premiere are $10 and are on sale at the Brawley, Calexico and El Centro chambers of commerce. For more information contact Teeters at 760.337.4155.
