A Eagle River log home went up in flames Saturday morning on Hiland Road. All of the people inside made it out of the home, but two dogs died in the blaze.
Crews from Anchorage, Eagle River, and Chugiak responded to the fire. Anchorage Batallion Chief Kevin Keene says an off-duty firefighter reported the fire, which helped with response times.
"He called the fire in and we got a quick response from Eagle River. It is a time-consuming drive up here for us, being five miles up in the mountains," Keene said.
The home has extensive fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
