Wichita State women preparing for WNIT

The men won't be the only Kansas teams grabbing attention this week. The Wichita State Women's team is in tournament play as well, hosting Oral Roberts University in the WNIT Friday night.

The Lady Shockers are putting in some hard practice hours in preparation for their big game.

"I think its going to be a really good game," said WSU Junior Center Jazimen Gordon. "We should go head to head. Its about who's mentally tougher and who can execute the game plan."

A win would give the team a record-tying 20th victory on the season. But they'll face a tough match-up in Oral Roberts University, a team they haven't played in four years.

"High temp offensive team," said WSU Coach Jody Adams. "Then they flip it around and then they delay you from scoring, so they are going to press you."

Coach Adams knows the shockers biggest advantage in the game may be their home court support from fans.

"Its extremely important, our fans give us great energy in the games," said WSU Junior Guard Jessica Diamond.

The ladies know the men's team will get a lot of attention this week at the NCAA tournament. They just hope Wichita State fans show up on Friday to support them as well.

"I think they deserve what they are getting," Diamond said. "But you know, we still want some fans to stay behind and cheer for us too."

The Lady Shockers lost to Kansas in the first round of the WNIT last year. They are hoping for a better result this year, thanks to their home town crowd

Tip off for the game is 7:05 Friday night at Koch Arena. Tickets are still available.
