A Civil War exhibit opens Friday at the History Museum of Western Virginia.

An American Turning Point: The Civil War in Virginia was organized by the Virginia Historical Society. The display includes art work, civil war artifacts and interactive experiences for children and adults.
"And those things grab people's attention," said the museum's Education Coordinator Alaina McKee. "They pull them in. They make you part of the exhibit, which is a wonderful thing about this. You actually become part of the exhibit as you're going through it."
It covers the important battles, but also life on the homefront, including the experience of African Americans. Unlike some other museums, the history museum is hosting the entire exhibit. It will remain on display at Center in the Square until June 1, 2014.
