D-Day anniversary ceremony moving inside due to rain
BEDFORD, Va. -

Due to rainy weather, Thursday's ceremony marking the 69th anniversary of D-Day will be held inside at Bedford Elementary School.

"D-Day" was the American-led invasion that liberated France during World War II.  The National D-Day Memorial in Bedford commemorates the event every year with a ceremony, typically held at the memorial site.  Organizers have chosen to move the event indoors, to protect the health of elderly D-Day veterans attending the service.

The The featured speaker will be Charles Whittington, Jr., a general who commands the 29th infantry division of the United States Army.  A series of new, narrative plaques that help tell the story of D-Day will also be dedicated.

Today's service starts at 11 a.m. in the Bedford Elementary School gym.
