Efforts to improve school safety were in the spotlight Wednesday, as Governor Bob McDonnell and other state leaders gathered for a bill signing ceremony near Richmond.
McDonnell visited an elementary school in Chesterfield County to highlight the legislation.

He appointed a school safety task force after the Connecticut school shootings last December.

Measures approved by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor include funding for more school resource officers, grants for security improvements and new requirements for campus threat assessment teams.
