The woman's body found in Buggs Island Lake last Saturday has been identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as Kathy Marie Kieling, who was reported missing from Danville last Friday.

Danville police were searching for Kieling, 57, who was reported missing and was last seen on May 31.

Mecklenburg County Sheriff's office contacted Danville Police after they found the body before 6:00 p.m. Saturday in Buggs island Lake near Clarksville.

The investigation is continuing.


12:23 p.m. Tuesday: A woman’s body was found in Buggs Island Lake near Clarksville Saturday evening.

According to a news release, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office contacted Danville Police Saturday in reference to Kathy Kieling, who was reported missing from Danville. A body was found shortly before 6:00 p.m. that afternoon.

Preliminary investigations showed that the deceased is female.

Police and medical examiners are working closely to determine if the body could be Kathy Marie Kieling’s.

The body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond, where a cause of death and positive identification is pending. Results may take several weeks.

No foul play is expected at this time.
