Mother Nature just didn’t let up at Radford University's commencement ceremony. A sea of umbrellas covered the quad as the rain continued to pour.

Even though the rain lasted through most of the ceremony, it didn't damper spirits. In the crowd and in the rain sat Kathy Grimes. She's been here before, not once, not twice but now five times.

“It's a very special moment. I loved it at Radford and I never thought that I would have four sons that would come to Radford,” said Kathy Grimes.

The Radford grad says hers sons chose to attend the school. She says knowing that her sons have crossed the stage at this moment is a feeling in her heart that indescribable. Her other sons who graduated were also in the crowd.

“When I was moving into Radford, John was three so he helped me move in and has kind of been here the whole time, we road trip ever since to go see games,” said brother Chris Flor.

“After the two older brothers went, the two younger brothers were sure that we were going to go somewhere different,” said brother Doug Grimes.

The youngest brother John walked across the very same stage.

Its bittersweet because it's a place he's known all his life. However, he's now happy to join a legacy with his family, especially the person who started it all.

“She's the best mom ever," said new graduate John Grimes, "She's a strong woman and she's been there to be the wind beneath my wings, sort to peak, so it's a great feeling."
