SALEM,Va. -

A World War I cannon is getting a paint job after being badly damaged in a hit and run accident back in January.

The cannon arrived this morning at West Salem Collision Center, after having some repairs made.
Those working to restore the Cannon say they're excited about the job.

“It's fantastic. It a huge thing to the community It's a huge thing to us. We're just so glad and honored to be able to help out, said employee Ashley Whitlow,” said employee Ashley Whitlow.

After the paint job, the city of Salem will put wooden wheels on the cannon.
