A first for students at Alleghany High School.

When students go back to class this year they will have air conditioning.

The school is now equipped with a geothermal heating and cooling system.

Lydia Nicely has been a secretary at the school for nearly 30 years and she loves it.

She says she stores jackets under her desk now to keep warm, which she never had to do.

Nicely realized how much people will love the air conditioning when she walked into the schools auditorium.

"People have always complained, you know, when we have performances in there that it gets to be hot, and I couldn't help but thinking when I was in there a while ago, they won't complain about it being too hot in here now!" Nicely said laughing.

School administrators say they used to have to close school early on days when it got too hot.
