Pittsylvania County leaders won't have much control if a uranium mining company were to build there.

That's the newest opinion report from Virginia's attorney general office answering a request from Delegate Don Merricks about the uranium deposit at Coles Hill, near Chatham.

In the 10-page opinion, Attorney General and Republican candidate for governor, Ken Cuccinelli, states that if the General Assembly lifts the ban, county leaders will have limited say.

Earlier this year the board of supervisors started rewriting an ordinance that gives them more zoning control of the uranium deposit at Coles Hill.

The chairman says he plans to talk to other supervisors about what they're allowed to do.
