With the new school year just around the corner, the Back 2 School Blast was held on Sunday, August 10th at Parkway Wesleyan Church in Roanoke.

Local businesses including Walgreens, BB&T, Scott and Stringfellow, MemberOne Federal Credit, and more along with individuals donated brand-new backpacks filled with pencils, notebooks, and other school supplies to needy students.

Over 1500 were given out to students. Five-hundred kids were lucky enough to draw a ticket  for a pair of new shoes.

The event is organized by the Roanoke Rescue Mission, to make sure that every child is prepared for the first day of school. This was the eighth year for the event.
