A Bassett man is facing charges after he accidentally shot his wife in the leg Thursday night.

James Clark, 47, called Martinsville/Henry County 911 Center around 9:45 p.m. Thursday and reported that his pistol accidentally discharged and the bullet struck his wife in the leg.

According to a news release, the bullet struck Clark’s wife in her right leg near the knee, exited the right leg, entered the left leg below the knee and exited.

She was taken to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County by Bassett Rescue Squad, then transferred to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

James Clark was charged with one misdemeanor count of reckless handling of a firearm and one felony count of unlawfully discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling. He was released on an unsecured bond.
