An iconic symbol for the town of Bedford is in bad shape and may need major repairs.
County leaders are considering a major reconstruction of the copula on the Bedford courthouse.
The clock tower hasn't undergone any major work since it was built in 1930. The facade is chipping away, and water is leaking through the structure and down into the courthouse.
Supervisors will begin accepting bids for the construction project Friday afternoon. A decision on whether to rebuild the copula now or put off repairs will be made at a meeting July 28.
