FOREST, Va. -

A Bedford County brewery is making a name for itself in the beer world.

Apocalypse Ale Works in Forest has won five international medals since it first opened two years ago.

The latest honor came at this weekend's U.S. Beer Open in Atlanta, Georgia.  The brewery's flagship beer, the "Red Hoppocalypse Imperial Ale," won a silver medal.

Owners of the business are proud to see their relatively new product beating out competitors that have been making beer a lot longer.

"People who wouldn't normally taste our product, now that we have these awards they will be a lot more likely to try our beers and see what kind of beer that we make," said brewery owner, Lee John.

Apocalypse Ale Works is the first brewery in Forest since Thomas Jefferson brewed beer at his Bedford County estate in the 1800's.  Their tap room is open Wednesday through Sunday.
