There are new details about the Bedford County mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son.
Shana Witt, 24, was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Jordon Smith on Feb. 27.
According to a search warrant, Witt confessed to an investigator that she suffocated her son with a large stuffed animal that was inside of a bedroom.
According to a return attached to the search warrant investigators seized from the home two stuffed animals, a blue blanket, a pillow, various bed linens, a trash can, a shower curtain, clothing, a child’s cup, and various medications.
Witt and her husband, Michael Smith, have a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 7 in Bedford County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Michael Smith is charged with two felony counts of child abuse and neglect, and one count of manufacturing methamphetamine.
Michael Smith, 25, is the father of Jordon Smith.

A Bedford County mom has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of her 2-year-old son. The boy’s father is charged with felony child abuse and neglect, as well as a methamphetamine charge.
24-year-old Shana Marie Witt is charged with first-degree murder. She is the mother. 25-year-old Michael Smith is charged with two felony counts of child abuse and neglect and one count of making methamphetamine.
The child, Jordon Smith, died Thursday. A call came in around 1:35 p.m. Thursday about an unresponsive 2-year-old at a home on Peaksview Lane in Bedford. The child was taken to Bedford County Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Smith and Witt are being held in the Bedford Adult Detention Center without bond. They are married.

On Thursday afternoon at 1:35 p.m., Bedford County 911 dispatchers received a call from 1066 Peaksview Lane, Bedford, Va. The caller advised dispatchers that his 2 year son was unresponsive and not breathing. Bedford County Fire and Rescue units along with Bedford County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene. Resuscitation efforts were started at the scene and the child was transported to Bedford County Memorial Hospital, where it was pronounced dead. The victim’s body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke and an autopsy was performed this morning.
Investigators learned that Michael Smith, the father, Shana Witt, the mother, and two
children, one 5 years old and the victim resided at the Peaksview Lane residence. The five year old was with a relative and not at the residence when the incident occurred. Micheal and Shana are married.
Last night, Bedford County Sheriff’s investigators charged Shana Marie Witt, age 24, the mother, with first degree murder of the child. The father, Michael Smith, age 25, was also arrested and charged with two counts of felony child abuse and neglect and
one count of manufacturing methamphetamines. Both are being held in the Bedford Adult Detention Center on no bond.
