DANVILLE, Va. -

Sunshine was welcome Tuesday morning as more than 400 bikers left Danville during the annual American Legion Legacy Run.

It's been a rainy ride since the bikers started in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Saturday. Bikers ride through eight states, finishing the trip in Charlotte, North Carolina.

During each stop, they raise money for The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. It provides college scholarships to children of military personnel killed on or after Sept. 11, 2001.

"This has been great for the American Legion and the veterans in the country. They continue to raise money to hep the dependents, to help the disabled veterans, it's just an ongoing thing so it's great to see the people turn out and support it," Frank Hill, a member of the Danville American Legion.

Members say this is the first time the ride has stopped in Danville. Last year the group raised more than $764,000.
