FIELDALE, Va. -

A car is destroyed after being engulfed in flames in Fieldale on Friday morning.

The tires exploded on Route 220 around 7 a.m., according to Skylor Layman with the Fieldale volunteer fire department.

The car was still smoldering an hour later.

Terrie Stovall, a security guard at Eastman, was on her way to work when her car caught on fire. She pulled over on Route 57.

A nurse helped to rescue the driver's belongings, which included a Bible. The nurse fell and had minor injuries.

Stovall says her Pontiac had been leaking oil, but the cause of the fire is not known officially.
