ROANOKE, Va. -

The Children's Hospital at Roanoke Memorial has a new mascot; and he's not big and fuzzy.

"Ned," is a robot with a touchscreen computer that helps teach kids about what's going on with their treatment. Patients can play video games like Angry Birds too.

"'Ned' is built so he can interact with children and their parents, with the intent of decreasing some of the fear of going to the hospital or going to the doctor's office," says Alice Ackerman, physician-in-charge at the Children's Hospital.

"Ned" also explains different pieces of equipment to the children so that something like an MRI might be less scary.
