ROANOKE,Va. -

A grant from Kohl’s will continue to help educate expecting parents and caregivers about making sure infants are sleeping safely.

This clothing retailer presented a check for more than $31,000 to Carilion Clinic Children’s Hospital.

The program educates parents and caregivers on proper safe sleep and proper safe sleep environments for infants.

“It made me want to run home and make sure that she's sleeping on her back and whoever is watching her right now, make sure she's sleeping on her back and not in bouncy seats,” said participant, Colleen Davis.

“What a lot of people don't recognize is that unsafe sleep practices are a very large killer of infants less than the age of one,” said pediatric chief, Dr. Alice Ackerman.

Participants of the program receive a free pack-n-play portable crib after attending the class.
