A girl has been rescued from a cave in Wythe County. 

Residents tell WDBJ7 that a YMCA Camp group was exploring a popular cave in Speedwell around noon on Tuesday, when a girl got trapped.

Rescue crews were on hand to help get the girl out.

The rescue took several hours to complete, because the girl was wedged in-between two ledges inside the cave.


Rescue crews are working to help a person stuck in a cave in Wythe County.

A spokesperson with the County tells WDBJ7 a group of spelunkers were exploring a cave off Route 21 near Speedwell just after noon on Tuesday, when one person got stuck.  

The rescue could take at least another hour, but the trapped person has been talking with rescuers.
