We learned Thursday night that the chairman of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors is dead.
Members of the board of supervisors tell WDBJ7 Marshall Ecker died suddenly of a heart attack Thursday afternoon
According to a news release, Gretna Rescue responders arrived at Deer View Road in Gretna around 3:18 p.m. after Pittsylvania County 9-1-1 Center received a call from a family member about a possible heart attack.
When first responders arrived, Ecker was found dead in the back yard of the home. According to family, he was working on an outdoor project on their farm.
Ecker was 68 years old.
He had been chairman for nearly a year.
He was very outspoken about his Christian beliefs and prayer during council meetings, and was against uranium mining.
Natural causes are suspected. Colbert Moran-Funeral Service of Gretna is serving the needs of the Ecker Family.
Brenda Bowman, formerly vice chair of Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, tells us that she will now act as chairman of the board per the county's bylaws.
