DANVILLE, Va. -

City leaders say the coal ash spill isn't only hurting Danville's reputation, but may stop businesses from coming to the area.

City manager Joe King won't say which company the city is trying to lure, but he's confident other cities wanting the same business are using the coal ash spill in their favor.

He's now working to reassure the company the water it will use is filtered and safe to drink.

"We'll be on the coal ash spill maps forever. And so anybody who is concerned about that issue is going to look and see that we're effected and that bothers us," said Joe King, the Danville City Manger.

The Dan River is the center of the city's River District, a new designation for Main Street and the Tobacco District to bring new stores and restaurants downtown.
