Several cities in our area are celebrating National Night Out on Tuesday. The block parties are meant to promote positive police-community relationships and a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting against crime.

Roanoke, Roanoke County, Danville and Martinsville all have events in honor of "America's Night Out Against Crime," which started in 1984.

Last year, more than 37 million people participated in NNO events nationwide.
