ROANOKE, Va. -

The earth is officially moving on the once-controversial Huff Lane Development.

The first project for the developer is creating construction access off Valley View Boulevard.

Roanoke officials urge drivers in the area to be wary of construction crews entering and exiting the site right across the street from Valley View Mall.

Roanoke City sold the land to a developer for $1.7 million.  That money will go towards Roanoke City Public Schools' renovations of nearby Round Hill Elementary School.

The five-acre piece of land is the future home of at least two hotels and a Mexican restaurant.
