A heavily traveled bridge in Vinton is being replaced.

The Walnut Avenue Bridge, just outside of Roanoke, crosses Glade Creek.

The project has been on the Virginia Department of Transportation's six-year plan for a while now, and is now starting to take shape.

The new bridge is being built right next to the existing bridge.

The new bridge will be wider and taller, have two-lanes with curbs and gutters, sidewalks and room for bikes.

The hope is the bridge won't flood as much.

The project is expected to be completed in 2015.
