ROANOKE, Va. -

A cooking fire did $5,000 in damage and has left two tenants without a place to live.

It happened at an apartment along Woods Avenue around 1:45 p.m.

The fire was contained to the kitchen, but another apartment suffered smoke damage.

Roanoke Fire EMS says this is the fourth cooking fire it's responded to in a little more than a week.

It's the number one cause of fire.

Be sure to keep an eye on what you heat and don't ever use water on a grease fire.
