DANVILLE, Va. -

An event in Danville is helping out soldiers from our area who are stationed in Afghanistan and Kuwait.

It's called "Fill the Humvee Day."

The American Red Cross is asking you to donate things from cookies and trail mix - to toothpaste and boardgames.

You can drop off the items on Saturday at the Sam's Club at Piedmont Place in Danville. Stop by anytime between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

List of requested items

Food/snacks:
Cookies (any and all kinds); Pop Tarts; Rice Krispies Treats; granola bars; Fruit & Nut Bars; candy (mostly hard candy); twizzlers (all flavors); nuts (canned/packaged: mixed, peanuts, cashews, etc.); trail mix; snack crackers (any kind, any flavor); gum; beef jerky; individual packets of drink mix (for use in bottled water)

Personal hygiene:
Lens cleaners (to clean goggles/eyeglasses); toothpaste; tooth brushes; dental floss; mouthwash; disposable razors; shave gel/cream; fingernail clippers; shower gel; shampoo; deodorant; Lotion; Handi-Wipes; foot powder; lip balm

Activities:
Board games; playing cards; dominoes; puzzle/Sudoku books; etc.

The Red Cross asks that you try to purchase items on the list as our troops face limitations with food preparation. Also please consider a financial donation to help cover the costs of mailing these care packages overseas.
