First responders are training for the worst scenario but hoping they never have to use their new skills.

Firefighters from Danville and eastern Virginia are using heavy equipment and large trucks to recreate dangerous accidents.

Their task? To use limited resources and the manpower available to safely lift the trucks and remove drivers and passengers.

"They don't want to learn this on the scene. If somebody's life is in the balance that's not the time for them to try to learn techniques of how to get them out," said Brad Antons, a captain from the Norfolk Fire and Rescue, and trainer for this week's event.

The Danville Fire Department hosted the three day event at the Blairs Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Fire fighters say this is the most difficult course they have to take. They're awarded a certificate in high risk training after the class.
