Promoting an area with a high unemployment rate to prospective employers can seem like a daunting task, but the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce is doing it with grace and getting high praise.
It was recently given a five star accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
That's pretty rare considering only 79 of 7,077 chambers received the title, that places the chamber in the top one percent in the nation.
The chamber had to prove it's responsibility to the community in nine categories from finances to its community involvement.
"For us it's important that we're doing work that really does impact businesses ability to thrive because when that happens then we're touching the people in this community," said Laurie Moran, president of the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce.
Only three chambers in Virginia got the high marks including Halifax County and Lynchburg City.
