Newer technology is making it easier for police to do investigations in Danville.

Thursday we told you about the electronic summons system.

It allows police to scan your driver's license when you're pulled over, all your information is submitted into the court system immediately and a ticket is printed.

It reduces time and paperwork.

Turns out that's not the only thing that's newer within the department.

Smart Board technology lets police show line ups via an interactive screen. And license plate scanners tell police in real time if a car is stolen.

"The amount of information that we're able to obtain is so far beyond anything we imagined 10 years ago," said Captain Dennis Haley with the Danville Police Department.

New software also allows police to scan fingerprints in the field.

They admit it's hard to catch up with the latest technology, but it's helping their investigations.
