DANVILLE, Va. -

Danville School Board members gave themselves a raise Friday morning, though it was smaller than originally proposed.

The board approved raising members' salaries to $5,000.  The chairman will be paid $6,000.  The original proposal would have raised members' salaries to $10,000.  Chairman Ed Polhamus says public input helped form the decision.

Danville school board members currently are paid $600 a year.  That figure was set in the 1950's, according to board members.
