CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. -

Two people are dead after an accident on Route 501 in Campbell County on Monday night.

Cliff Maresco was driving a motorcycle north on Route 501 when he struck a car driven by Trinity Burks at the intersection of Bocock Road. She was heading west, attempting to cross the northbound lanes.

Burks was struck on the driver’s side. The impact caused the car to overturn.

According to a news release from the Virginia State Police, witnesses say they saw the motorcycle speeding.

Maresco, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

Burks, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital where she later died. She was 24 and from Lynchburg.

Traffic was blocked on Route 501 for more than an hour Monday.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.

The Virginia State Police are still investigating the accident.

CAMPBELL CO., Va. – A 21 year-old man and a 24 year-old woman, both Lynchburg residents, were killed in a fatal crash Monday, June 9, 2014. Virginia State Police were notified of the crash located at the intersection of Route 501 and Bocock Road in Campbell County at approximately 6:46 p.m. Trooper T.J. Sica is investigating the crash.

According to a preliminary report, a Suzuki GSXR Motorcycle, driven by Cliff B. Maresco, 21, was traveling north on Route 501. Witnesses report the motorcycle was speeding.

A vehicle traveling west on Bocock Road was attempting to cross the northbound lanes when it was struck by the motorcycle on the driver’s side. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn. The motorcycle operator, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

The vehicle was driven by Trinity D. Burks, 24, of Lynchburg, Va. She was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital, where she later died. She was wearing a seatbelt.

At this time, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting Trooper Sica with the crash, which remains under investigation.
