At 1:00 p.m. Saturday (July 12), Virginia State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash in Pittsylvania County.

The crash occurred in the 1800 block of Stony Mill Road.

A 2004 Ford Taurus was traveling south on Route 869 when it crossed the centerline and hit  three Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Two of the motorcyclists: Ray Hamlett, of Chatham, and David Williams of Danville died at the scene. 

A third rider wasn't injured. The three involved in the accident were among a group of eight riders. 

The driver of the Taurus, Amanda Scruton, of Danville, was transported to Danville Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. 

Scruton has been charged with driving on a suspended license and for failing to drive on the right side of the road.
