ALTAVISTA, Va. -

More than two years and $165 million later, Dominion Virginia Power is going green in our region.

Workers there are celebrating the conversion of their power plant in Altavista.

It's the first of three stations to be converted from coal to biomass - that's mostly tree tops and branches that aren't used in timber operations.

These conversions will help Dominion meet the Commonwealth's renewable energy goal.

Officials say this conversion will create up to 100 additional forestry and trucking jobs.
