ROANOKE, Va. -

A little rain did not stop the Paws for a Cause bike ride in downtown Roanoke.

Angels of Assisi puts on the event every year.

According to organizers, all donations go to the animal adoption program as well as our local domestic violence program.

Bikers started their ride on Campbell Avenue and drove to Smith Mountain Lake.

Organizers said the event always has a big turnout.

"It really gives people that may not normally be involved in animal rescue a chance to get involved and not through adoption,” said organizer Michael Brown.

Angels of Assisi is currently involved in a nation-wide adoption competition.

It is trying to get 1,500 animals adopted by the end of the summer.

So far, they've found forever homes for 420 dogs and cats.

According to the Angels of Assisi Facebook page, Sunday's event raised $1,226.00 .
