PITTSYLVANIA CO., Va. -

Virginia State Police are questioning a 33-year-old suspect from Campbell County about an accident Sunday night in Pittsylvania County that killed two people.

Police say the suspect fled on foot after the crash. The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Level Run Road at the intersection of Dews Road.

The driver left the scene on foot and was later found at a hospital, police say. Investigators say that driver may have been drinking. No arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed at this point.

According to family, teenagers Donovan Stone and William Ward died in the accident. Stone was supposed to begin his first day of school at Gretna High School on Monday. He was entering 11th grade. Ward graduated from Gretna in the spring.

The families of Stone and Ward say students and teachers took a moment of silence Monday morning at Gretna High School on the first day of classes.

Family members say the cousins were inseparable.

"I never would have thought this would happen this way. I never thought I would have to see something like this. My heart is really heavy right now,” said Stephanie Stone, who is the teens’ cousin.

Monday afternoon family members placed two crosses, moving them between two scenes of the deadly crash, still visible along Level Run Road near Hurt in Pittsylvania County.

A cousin wrote the names William Ward and Donovan Stone on each of them. The whole family took a moment to cry.

"I don't believe it. I can't believe,” said Ken Ward, who is also one of the teens’ cousins.

Virginia State Police say Ward was driving Stone and two other passengers in a Ford Focus when they were hit head-on by a driver in a Buick.

Family members want answers about the accident.

"All we want is justice that's all we want," Ken Ward said.

Stephanie Stone added: "I hope whoever it is, I hope he's watching this and I hope he will have the nerve to just come and give himself up because he took two young guys' lives for nothing. For no reason at all."

A Virginia State Police sergeant says speed was a factor in the crash.
