BEDFORD, Va. -

The Elks National Home in Bedford has been sold to a private owner.  Managers at the home say they do not expect any major changes for residents or the community after the sale is completed at the end of the year.

The facility told residents and staff Monday about the sale to New River Assissted Living LLC.  Pam Mutter, the current executive director, said the facility's new name will be English Meadows Elks Home Campus.  New River Assisted Living also operates a retirement facility in Christiansburg under the English Meadows name.

The board that currently manages the facility for the Elks organization will maintain a relationship with the new owner.  Mutter said new owner Mike Williams assured the board that the home's Christmas light display and other community events will continue.  Mutter said the board felt Williams was in a better position to handle care at the facility and improve what is offered.
