CARROLL COUNTY, Va. -

The Carroll County Special Olympics held its annual basketball classic Sunday to show the public how hard its athletes have been working all year.

This event is in its 6th year.

The exhibition game is a chance for the athletes to practice as the prepare for tournament season.

Sunday's game, is Carroll County's own event, with enough athletes for two teams to play a full, regulation game.

Coaches encourage everyone on the team to try their hardest and reinforce each team members' importance.

"We are one team, everyone is made to feel important whether they're the fastest or the slowest on the team it doesn't matter. That's our motto, one team and we really try to live up to it," head coach, Vickie Ritchie, told Your Hometown News Leader.
