Family and farming came together Saturday in Bedford County.

The Bedford County Family Farm Tour is designed to help educate communities about modern agriculture.
Hickory Hill Vineyards near Smith Mountain Lake hosted the annual event.

The free event offered visitors vineyard and winery tours along with mini-seminars and children's activities.

"The whole idea is to invite the public onto various farms, diversified farms each year and tell them a little about the importance of agriculture to the Bedford community," organizer Scott Baker told Your Hometown News Leader.

Bedford County ranks fourth statewide in beef cows, with over 27,000.
Southwest Virginia is also known for wineries, dairy farms and produce production.
