The former Buena Vista fire chief charged with taking money for swift water rescue courses he wasn't authorized to teach pleaded guilty to some charges Monday.

Butch Lawhorn was facing more than 70 counts of fraud for faking certificates for the authorizing body called Rescue 3 International.

He pleaded guilty to 22 of those charges. The rest won't be prosecuted. Lawhorn will be sentenced in July.

The first responders whose credentials are in limbo will be recertified in May.
