HALIFAX CO., Va. -

Former Halifax County Sheriff Stanley Noblin says he's guilty of stealing money from his own department.

Friday Stanley Noblin was in Halifax County court and pleaded guilty to five embezzlement charges.

He was originally charged with 21 counts.

Noblin is accused of taking more than 113 thousand dollars from funds meant for use in crime and drug investigations at the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Someone tipped State Police Investigators when the numbers just didn't add up at four banks.

The commonwealth's Attorney from Southampton County is prosecuting the case.
He says Noblin could be forced to pay all the money back. His sentencing is set for October.

Investigators say the crimes started just after Noblin took office in 2007.

Their investigation began three weeks before he was up for re-election.
