MONETA, Va. -

Homecoming will be extra special at one Bedford County high school this weekend.

Staunton River High School is celebrating its 50th anniversary.  It opened in the fall of 1963 as the county's first consolidated high school.

Former students are putting together a big celebration that will happen Friday night.  Students from the first graduating class will be recognized, along with faculty members from the first year, and graduates who have gone on to work at Staunton River.

"The community should be proud of Staunton River High School," said Dennis Dellis, a member of the first graduating class at Staunton River.  "We encourage everyone who attended Staunton River High School to attend these festivities."

The celebration happens Friday night at 7, during Staunton River's varsity football game.
