Governor Bob McDonnell announced that Franklin County received $15,000 from the Virginia Tourism Corporation Marketing Leverage Grant Fund program Tuesday.
The county received the grant for its Visit Franklin County Brand Development and Marketing Initiative.
Franklin County partnered with the Town of Rocky Mount, the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Blue Ridge Institute and Farm Museum to supply $44,762 in matching funds for the project, according to a news release.
The project is geared toward increasing awareness of Franklin County and its tourism assets with the hope that this will in turn increase consumer visitation and spending.
Governor McDonnell had earlier increased funding for the program as part of his administration's efforts to increase economic development through tourism.
In total the Virginia Tourism Corporation awarded more than $980,000 for 54 tourism marketing projects across the state to help increase visitation and revenue for Virginia's localities through tourism.
