Roanoke City looking at replacing Franklin Road Bridge
ROANOKE, Va. -

It's nearly 80 years old and on Monday, Roanoke City Council will learn how much it will cost to rebuild the Franklin Road Bridge.

It crosses the railroad tracks near interstate 581.

Engineers say the foundation is worn down, the steel is corroded, and some of its walls are beginning to lean.

All discussion about how to fix it is preliminary, but the estimated cost of a new bridge is right around $12 million

The cost of the bridge when it was built in 1936: $193,000.
