Bedford County movers and shakers, and even Governor McDonnell, came out to give retiring Delegate Lacey Putney a send-off dinner Wednesday.

Putney served the county for more than 50 years as a delegate. Wednesday night, county and town leaders honored him.

He's known for bringing construction projects and other funding to the county; something his replacement Terry Austin will try to keep up in Richmond.

“I was two years old when Lacey went in the house. so you know I can't live up to Lacey's expectations. I've got to start my own agenda and I plan to do that. We need economic development, we need highway infrastructure improvements,” Delegate-elect Terry Austin said.

Austin says if he wants to be like his predecessor, one of his new friends in the General Assembly will have to be the head of the appropriations committee.
