SALEM, Va. -

It's a position many grandparents never thought they'd be in - raising children as seniors.

But, it's a reality for a growing number of grandparents.

And, that was the idea behind a conference held Satuday at the Salem YMCA.

The Prevention Council of Roanoke County hosted the event to help grandparents deal with some of the issues they're bound to face.

"That definitely is a big part of the goal is to provide them resources, also they're finding they're not alone in this situation so we're having a lot of families get to know each other and build a network of support for other families," explains Prevention Education Coordinator Brooks Michael.

Organizers say grandparents have a number of things to deal with including legal issues, money matters, and even their own health concerns.

More than 30-people were on hand for Saturday's event.
