A Roanoke enviornmental group took an unusual method to get its message out today.
The Clean Valley Council went around downtown Roanoke picking up cigarette butts dressed as cigarette butts.
Today's cleanup is meant to raise awareness for tomorrow's Clean Valley Day.
The Clean Valley Council has made clearing up cigarette butts a priority with help of Roanoke City and County.
"These cigarette butts, they don't degrade, they stay in the environment, they go into our storm drains, flow into our creeks and rivers, they're full of toxins that get released into the rivers, animals eat them and it's a real litter problem," said Cristina Siegel with the Clean Valley Council.
